Who You Are

By

Figuring out who you want to be as a person is an ongoing struggle. People change who they want to be every day, and it’s important to be patient with them and with yourself.

The piece is actually all about forgiveness. It’s about forgiving yourself for the mistakes you’ve made, and the ones you’re going to make. It’s about being willing to make those mistakes to develop as an individual.

You can read this now and think: ‘I want to be kind, I want to be honest, I want to be respectful’. Sure, obviously. But that’s only your qualities, that doesn’t define you. What does define you? You might not know, you might change your mind. That’s okay.

Who do you want to be without the weight of the world’s expectations of who you should be? You’re the one who has to look in the mirror every day and be happy with the person staring back at you. It doesn’t matter what other people think.

It’s even the little things like learning what you do and don’t like, and having the confidence to set those boundaries. You learn to listen to your instincts and what feels right in the moment. You learn your own morals, what you do and don’t stand for. It just starts with paying attention to your emotions and behaviour in the moment.

This process takes time; it takes patience. Different people will influence who you are; some good and some bad. You have to decide what you want to take away from the lessons you’ve learnt. For example, I’ve turned all the rubbish I’ve experienced in my life into a website so other girls can be better prepared for it. You’ll outgrow people and friends, you’ll figure out what’s more important to you: your friends or your morals. There will be times when you pick your friends, that’s okay. It’s okay to make bad choices.

You live by your own values, not the values you think you should have.

The thing that really stuck with me as I’ve grown up is ‘everything is a lesson’. It’s everyone’s first time on earth. You’ll figure you out eventually.
